I am an average Joe Investor just like everybody else. However, in February 2005, I became fed up with being a passive participant in the management of my own finances. At that point, I decided to take control of my own finances.
No more blindly accepting the propaganda of the financial institutions. No more allowing my financial advisor to manage my finances on autopilot. No more letting my own laziness hurt my financial future. NO MORE!!
Why am I blogging about do-it-yourself finances? Ever since that fateful day in February 2005, when I was sitting in my financial advisor’s office, I decided there and then that I wanted to learn as much as possible about managing my financial matters. Why? Because nobody cares about MY money as much as I do. Ever since then, I have been reading voraciously. I changed just about every aspect of my financial situation from where I do my every day banking to managing my own RRSP in a self-directed brokerage account.
At this same time, I began looking for resources on the Web that would help me learn more about investing. I stumbled across a few blogs and became an avid reader. I was inspired by these blogs and decided that maybe I have something to offer others as well. At least, I would give it a chance.
So here is my blog. Check out About DIY to see what I hope to accomplish with DIY Finances. Check out About Me to learn a little bit about this average Joe Investor.
In my opinion, the purpose of this website is to stimulate thought and discussions and to empower us as investors. Actively managing your finances can be scary at first. The only way to get past that fear is to gain the knowledge and understanding necessary to make informed decisions. I hope that you will take the time to be an active participant.
Average Joe
P.S. As I said above, I am just an average Joe Investor. Please read my DISCLAIMER. We all need to take responsibility for our own fortunes.
