My first comment! :)

The focus of the book is not on constructing your portfolio (although Chapter 12 does touch on it), but on the inherent conflict of interest that surrounds the entire financial industry. It will definitely be an eye-opener to the investor who doesn't even bother reading their statements.

You should definitely give this book a read. It will definitely be worth your time. I am sure that there won't be anything too shocking presented in it for you since you are already a savvy investor (as I am an avid reader of your blog). It will probably reinforce what you already suspected about the financial industry.

I haven't read this book; it sounds interesting, so I will check it out. I wonder if the author talks about low-cost index funds (TD eFunds comes to mind), ETFs or even low-cost mutual funds.

While it is important to educate the investing public about the dangers of high cost mutual funds, it is also important to show what can be done about it. From the table of contents, it looks like the author devotes just one chapter to this topic.
