CNN Money reports that Google is being sued by KinderStart.com after being, what it claims, unfairly downgraded in Google’s search-result ranking without reason or warning.
KinderStart accuses Google of violating it’s constitutional right to free speech by blocking search engine results. KinderStart complains that it is difficult to get answers from Google to learn why they were penalized.
KinderStart is suing Google for financial damages as well as disclosing how Google ranks Internet sites.
To see how important page rank is, KinderStart had a 70% decline in audience after being dropped in the page ranks. And worse, they experienced an 80% decline in revenue!
How does Google rank pages? Nobody knows for sure. This is what Google has to say:
“Google’s order of results is automatically determined by more than 100 factors, including our PageRank algorithm. Please check out our Technology Overview page for more details. Due to the nature of our business and our interest in protecting the integrity of our search results, we limit the information we make available to the public about our ranking system.”
As you can see from this statement, Google will not be happy to divulge the secrets to its page ranking system. You can find the original PageRank paper written by Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page entitled “The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine” .
Want to know how your site ranks? There are many websites that will tell you your page rank. One site that I have used is WebSolucing.com. Also, I found a site that let me add a snippet of code that would display my page rank. The site is PRChecker.info. I placed mine at the bottom right-hand side of my website.
Unfortunately, I am showing an unimpressive page rank of 0.
