Pros: Read real life stories about real estate investing.

Cons: I did not find any of the stories helpful or insightful.

Continuing on my real estate kick, I just finished reading “What No One Ever Tells you About Investing in Real Estate” (ISBN 0-7931-9516-0) by Robert J. Hill II, Esq. The author is a practicing real estate lawyer and investor with ten years of experience buying, renovating, managing and selling investment real estate.

The very first preface explains the whole book:

“This book is full of mistakes, full of successes, and full of experience. On the following pages, successful real estate investors from across America share their stories with you. Their stories are completely true.”

And that is exactly what this book is. There are 112 ‘real’ stories to clarify a tip being suggested by the author. As you can see from the table of contents below, there are tips on a wide variety of topics such as being a landlord, finding investment deals, and rehabbing properties to name a few.

To tell you the truth, I was not able to read this whole book. I started off reading it, but the stories did not interest me and I found that they didn’t offer any insight. Even the tips were not very clear. For example, one tip is “sometimes you can help your tenants more than you - or even they - know.” Another tip was “When it comes to trusting people, follow your gut feelings. Doing so can pay huge rewards.”

After about 40 minutes of reading, I started leafing through the book looking for something interesting. I was skimming over the tips. In about another 15 minutes, I was at the end of the book. Nothing at all caught my interest.
