Pros: Motivational book to prove that you too can buy lots of properties in any real estate market.

Cons: I did not find any information that I would consider useful to a real estate investor.

I couldn’t resist picking up a book titled “The Insider’s Guide to 52 Homes in 52 Weeks” (ISBN 0-471-75705-5) by real estate guru Dolf De Roos and his protege Gene Burns.

The purpose of this book was to document Dolf and Gene’s quest to purchase 52 homes in 52 weeks. Do you think they were successful? Of course. And with plenty of months to spare!

If I sound sarcastic, it is because I think I have been reading too many of these types of real estate books lately. Do I doubt that they were successful? No. I am sure they did exactly as they explained in their book. I have no reason to doubt them. But is this something that a normal, average investor could (or should) hope to do? That is another matter.

However, the point of the book was to prove that they could purchase all these homes in the specified time frame. They did not suggest that this should be done by an average investor. But, if they can buy 52 homes in 52 weeks, then surely an average investor could buy 1 or 2 homes a year. That was their point.
