What is there to say about me?

I was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and I continue to live here. It is a great city. It is not too big, and not too small. It is JUST right.

I am in my late 30s and have been happily married for close to 7 years. I have a smart, beautiful 2 year old daughter who brings joy, worry, laughter, concern, love and lots of work into my life. Luckily, my parents live in town and are a huge help.

I earned a Bachelor’s of Engineering (Mechanical) at university. Right out of school, I was hired for a position with the Federal Government and have been working there ever since. I manage a team responsible for Network Infrastructure and absolutely love my job and the people I work with.

Until I got married, I was a spendthrift. I don’t think I saved any money at all (and I really had no expenses either!). I would spend my money on anything and everything. I would contribute to my RRSP only because I wanted the tax refund. I just handed my money over to my financial advisor that worked at my local CIBC branch.

After getting married, I realized that it was time to get serious about wealth management as this would now affect both my wife and my child.

This blog is about my personal journey to financial independance.
